Terror raised in velvet dusk
rolling wraiths unfold the night;
Away light! Spill out days husk
as resting creatures take fright;
Blackening cold this warmth to suck
chilling field and temple height.

Sibilant silence whispers fear
of slithering things barely spied;
Longing memories some may hear
guilt that echoes they thought had died.
Images of her appear flickering near
hastening dreams, from nightmares hide;

Serenity found there his soul
that drenching dew wets to wake;
Morning struggles before that foul
patience prowling him to take;
Unrested arises, his voice a growl
a keening prayer of want; awake.
